As part of our newly designed and packaged Danio Housing and Filtration System, we are incorporating Polygeyser filtration technology by AST into our setup. AST is the world leader in bead filter technology and design with over 25 years of experience engineering advanced water filtration solutions.
The Polygesyer unit will serve as an integral part of our filtration loop where it will act as a bio-mechanical clarifier that removes large solid wastes and produces nitrifying bacteria in one unit. In other words, it combines mechanical and biological filtration components all in one.
At Danio Lab, we aim towards upholding the highest level of sustainability we can throughout our product and service departments. A unique characteristic of this filtration unit is that it utilizes air-driven backwash technology – meaning that it backwashes with air, rather than water. This conserves water which is important in zebrafish operations considering how much water facilities cycle through on a daily and weekly basis.
This happens by introducing air into the chamber which eventually creates an air bubble from the pump that builds up over a set time. Once the chamber has reached its capacity, an air bubble is released below the bead bed, which causes the beads to become agitated throughout the filter. As the beads fall back down, the bed expands downwards, which then allows the solids to sink to the bottom, settle, and funnel out. Sludge gets drained out once per week. Unlike many other bead filters, which use water to backwash, this unit uses air (zero water loss). The frequent backwashing nature of the filter promotes the best nitrification capacity – allowing for superior biological filtration.
Our packaged Danio Filtration Skids are also comprised of a monitoring and dosing system, (pH, temperature, & conductivity) sensors, pump control panel with integrated backup water pumps, stainless steel UV sterilizer, 30-micron finish filter, cloud-based data app, andf other components as needed.
